F.A.C.E. dIAMOND- Project Facilitation

Project Management boils down to Coordination, Collaboration, Cooperation, and Communication. All four of these objectives require the free and timely flow of credible and relevant information.

This is the role of Project Facilitation, to insure that all mission-critical information flows to and from all Construction Project Team members. The label may be unfamiliar to many, but it is certain to replace the tired and misrepresenting current label: Planning and Scheduling.

Cognitive Project Management believes that there is much more to Construction Project Time Management than simply planning and scheduling the project. To the greatest extent, Project Facilitation insures that the Project Team can perform to their highest potential.

Such is the true goal, and measure, of this key supporting domain within the Cognitive F.A.C.E. Diamond. The Project Facilitator job description entails working diligently to facilitate the maximum performance of all other members of the Project Team.

Recapping the Domains and their Meanings

TIMESmallProject Execution: Where the rubber meets the road; where the project is built.

Project Administration: Where the project is enabled, providing Project Execution with the resources it needs to get the job done!

Project Coordination:  Where the smooth blending of goals, interests, priorities, and methods is accomplished.  This is the most recognized role of the Project Manager – to act as a liaison and informational conduit between and among the project participants.

Project Facilitation: Where critical information, the very lifeblood of the project, is closely managed and communicated.

How Project Facilitation is Typically Organized

As the diagram below clearly illustrates, Project Facilitation has its own unique organizational structure, much different than the orrganizational structures required by the other three F.A.C.E. Diamond Domains.
